ANIELLO MANTICE

Napoli, 1938 – Portici, 2003

Ha studiato all’Istituto d’Arte e all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Napoli. Si è diplomato anche in Arti Grafiche e Pubblicità e studiato in Germania la tecnica dell’incisione. Ha insegnato Educazione Artistica a Benevento. Ha partecipato a più di 70 mostre nazionali, ricevendo vari premi, coppe, diplomi, medaglie. Suoi lavori figurano in varie collezioni in Italia e all’estero (Brasile, Germania). Su di lui hanno espresso giudizi più che favorevoli Arturo Jannace, Bonifacio Malandrino, Vittorio Como e numerosi altri critici su riviste e quotidiani. Era accademico Tiberino. Figura nel libro “Il Mercato Artistico Italiano 1800-1900” della Pinacoteca di Torino; su “Panorama d’Arte” di Brescia; su “Documenti d’Arte Italiana d’oggi” di Benevento. Ha ricevuto la Legion d’Oro come premio dell’operosità nell’arte.

“Mantice è arrivato alla speranza. È arrivato a guardare dalla cima il dispiegarsi della vita. Saliva per la costa, sentiva la fatica dell’ascesa, la solitudine del suo ansare; guardava indietro e il suo sguardo si smarriva nella concatenazione dei rumori della gente in pianura: risse per nulla, oppressione dei meno scaltri, l’umanità imbestiata. Poi ha capito che ognuno può crearsi un suo mondo a propria immagine, e allora anche il disprezzo per la corruzione, per la superbia degli incapaci, per la boria dei presuntuosi, si è tramutato in pietà e in commiserazione. Mantice ha scoperto se stesso come unico essere fatto a sua misura, che può creare daccapo il mondo, che può inventare la vita e di conseguenza le note e i colori che la descrivono. Ecco perché i suoi soggetti sono percorsi da brividi di azzurri e di verdi; si mantiene nella sua preferenza di accostare masse, piuttosto che delineare forme, di fondere insieme paesaggio e figura. La materia è più dolce, più serena: accomunati nello stesso destino sono la terra e l’uomo; e la terra vista dall’alto è meravigliosa. Così la conquista della verità dell’uomo, convince anche il pittore a usare comprensione per il male, anche perché il male mette in evidenza il bene. E il tutto scompare nella maestosità e bellezza della natura e della vita che al di sopra e al di fuori degli uomini resta in attesa di una possibile e sognata età dell’oro”.

ANIELLO MANTICE

He studied at the Institute of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and morevore graduated in Graphic Arts and Advertising and studied in Germany the technique of engraving. He taught Artistic Education in Benevento and  has participated in more than 70 national exhibitions, receiving various awards, cups, diplomas, medals. His works are in various collections in Italy and abroad (Brazil, Germany). More than favorable comments were made by Arturo Jannace, Bonifacio Malandrino, Vittorio Como and many other critics in magazines and newspapers. He was academic Tiberinus. Figure in the book “The Italian Art Market 1800-1900” of the Pinacoteca di Torino; on “Panorama d’Arte” in Brescia; on “Today’s Italian Artwork Documents” by Benevento. He received the Golden Legion as a reward for artwork.

“Mantice came to hope. He came to look from the top the deplovment of life. He got up on the coast,and felt the fatigue of the ascent, the loneliness of his breaht ; he looked back and his glance disappeared into the concatenation of the noises of the plain people: brawls for nothing, oppression  for  the less wily, the unharmed humanity. Then he realized that everyone could create his own world in his own image, and then the contempt for corruption, for the pride of the incapable, for the bourgeoisie of the presumptuous ones, turned into piety and commiseration. Mantice has discovered himself as the only being made to its own measure, which can create the world, which can invent life, and hence the notes and colors that describe it. That is why his subjects are perched by shivers of blue and green; it maintains in its preference to move masses, rather than outline shapes, to blend together landscape and shape. The matter is sweeter, more serene: in the same destiny are earth and man; and the earth from above is wonderful. So  the conquest of man’s truth also convinces the painter to use understanding for evil, also because evil shows the good. And it all disappears in the majesty and beauty of nature and life that above and beyond the people is waiting for a possible and dreamy golden age. “
